Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of natural flora present in the vagina, known as Candida albicans or yeast. Using this cream aims to restore that balance by killing the fungi. It does this with the help of its active ingredient, miconazole, which stops the yeast cells from producing ergosterol, which is vital to their survival. Not only does it kill the actual fungal cells, but it is also known to target other bacteria that can often cause yeast infections to worsen, making this a highly comprehensive thrush medication.
It is generally safe and suitable for most, but it may not be recommended in the following cases: if you are allergic to the active ingredient or you are pregnant. You should also make sure that you mention to your doctor if you are taking any other medications, as there may be a risk of contraindications.
The cream is inserted into the vagina with the help of applicators. These are easy to use and will ensure that you apply the medicated cream directly where it's required. Each box comes with enough applicators to allow for 14 days of treatment, which will involve the insertion of the cream once a day. However, your doctor may also recommend a shorter course of treatment over a seven-day period where you use it twice a day. As this treatment is applied directly where it is required and doesn't have to filter through your system, the risk of negative side effects are relatively low. Side effects may include vaginal irritation or itching at the start of treatment, but this is likely to go away. If, however, they persist or you experience anything more serious, it's advisable to speak to your doctor.
