The pack contains two types of patches, Evorel and Evorel Conti. The first contains just oestrogen, while the second is a patch that contains both estradiol and noresthisterone. Taking these treatments helps to replace oestrogen that is lost when the body starts to change during menopause. Lower oestrogen levels are what cause many of the signature menopause symptoms.
However, if you have not had a hysterectomy, then the oestrogen can cause the womb lining to grow without restriction, which can increase the risk of endometrial cancer, which is why the use of progestogen is recommended during certain points of your cycle. This is when Evorel Conti should be used.
This treatment is mostly recommended to women who need relief from menopause symptoms and haven't yet had a hysterectomy. However, these patches may not be suitable to women who are sensitive to the active ingredients in these treatments or who have a history of oestrogen-dependent cancers. It may also be dangerous for you to take if you have issues with blood clotting.
This combination contains 50mcg Evorel and 50mcg/170mcg Conti patches. These should be used in sequence as advised by your doctor and should be changed twice a week. Always remember to place the patch on an area below the waist and never on your arm or on your breasts.
This medication isn't likely to cause side effects and just like with any HRT treatment, your doctor will ask you to come for regular check-ups to see if you are still getting the most from it. The most common side effects include irritation where the patches have been applied, headaches, heavy periods (if you are still menstruating), and changes in mood as well as insomnia. These side effects shouldn't be lasting as they are often a sign of the body adapting to the new medication, however if you start noticing anything more bothersome, you should tell your doctor.
