How does Ovranette work?

Ovranette's synthetic hormones work to prevent pregnancy by 'over riding' the menstrual cycle. They make the body believe that ovulation has already taken place, so no eggs are released by the ovaries. It also prohibits conception by altering the consistency of cervical fluid, hindering the journey of sperm to the womb, where eggs await fertilisation. Even if an egg was to become fertilised, it would not be able to attach itself to the womb lining to grow as the contraceptive causes the lining to become thinner in texture.

When to start taking Ovranette

It is advised to start taking it on the first day of menstruation so that you are protected from pregnancy immediately. Take one tablet a day for 21 days, then take a seven day pill-free break. After this break, start your next pack of Ovranette, even if you are still bleeding.

Precautions for using Ovranette

This must not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, over 35 and smoke heavily, over 50 or if you are affected by any of the following conditions:

  • Blood clots
  • Heart disorders, high cholesterol or hypertension
  • Severe diabetes
  • Severe migraine
  • Genital tract or breast cancer
  • Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
  • Severe liver disease or history of
  • Gallstones
  • History of jaundice

Are there side effects?

The Ovranette combination contraceptive pill is suitable for the majority of women over 18. As with all birth control pills, it may cause undesirable effects including irritability, headaches and breast enlargement. If one or more side effects persist, contact your doctor or healthcare provider who may recommend a more suitable pill.

Will a doctor review my consultation?

What happens after I submit my order?
