The Gonorrhoea Treatment Pack contains the antibiotics Azithromycin and Cefixime which are taken together in a single dose, however, please note that we are currently not able to provide treatment for gonorrhoea at this time due to a resistant strain that has developed in the UK. The preferred method of treatment is an injection obtained from the sexual health clinic or some doctors surgeries. If you think you may have gonorrhoea, it is important that you visit a Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) clinic or sexual health clinic as soon as possible. To find your nearest clinic, you can visit the NHS resources online. They can test and treat gonorrhoea effectively with the recommended treatment.
The modern day strains of gonorrhoea are becoming increasingly difficult to treat. This is due to a number of reasons, one being patients not completing the prescribed course of medication. There are gonorrhoea strains that have developed a resistance to some of the traditional treatments that were previously very effective. The respected organisation 'Public Health England' has stated that gonorrhoea resistance is a growing problem. It is for this reason that the medication prescribed to treat this condition have recently changed to ensure maximum effectiveness.
This means that the recommended treatment for gonorrhoea is the injection administered at the sexual health clinic. If you have already tested positive, you can often be fast-tracked straight to the treatment without the appointment wait times.
This combination pack contains Azithromycin and Cefixime, two highly effective antibiotics that are proven to be effective at treating the bacteria that causes gonorrhoea. Cefixime is a type of cephalosporin, which limits a bacteria's ability to form cell walls and leads to the bacterial cell eventually dying. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that affects the bacteria's ability to multiply, which allows the body's natural immune system time to fight the infection effectively. This treatment pack provides fast effective relief from the symptoms of gonorrhoea and is one of the most effective treatment methods available for this condition. The combination of these two medications can clear gonorrhoea in a single dose.
The Gonorrhoea Treatment Pack provides fast and effective relief from the difficult symptoms caused by gonorrhoea. When left untreated, this condition can have long-term health implications for both men and women. In women, untreated gonorrhoea can cause pelvic inflammation or even infertility in extreme cases. For men, the long-term complications that can develop as a result of this condition include problems with the prostate and possible infertility.
With there being such profound long-term health risks from leaving gonorrhoea untreated, a fast and effective treatment is required as soon as you are diagnosed or begin experiencing symptoms. The Gonorrhoea Treatment Pack is able to clear a gonorrhoea infection in a single dose. This is easier and more convenient than some of the other long course or injection based treatments that are available.
Azithromycin and Cefixime are both widely used and well-tolerated. Neither of these medications will normally cause side effects and any symptoms that do occur are usually temporary in nature and should pass within a few days. There are people who may not be suitable to use this treatment pack to clear their gonorrhoea infection. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with their doctor in order to find the right treatment option.
You may also not be suitable for this treatment if you suffer from kidney disease, liver disease or severe diabetes. If any of these apply to you, please consult with your doctor before deciding on a treatment option.
The Gonorrhoea Treatment Pack consists of 2 x 500mg Azithromycin tablets and 2 x 200mg Cefixime tablets. You should take all of these tablets as a single dose or one after the other if this is difficult. You can take the antibiotics with or without food, although you will need to abstain from alcohol for 48 hours after the treatment. You should wait for two weeks before taking a test to establish whether the infection is cleared. The patient leaflet that we will provide you with will have full instructions on how and when to use this medication. If you require any further advice or assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our dedicated patient support team who will be more than happy to assist you.
As the Gonorrhoea Treatment Pack is a one-off dose of antibiotics, the risk of possible side effects is very low. If they do occur, symptoms can include mild headaches, skin rashes or digestion problems like diarrhoea and vomiting. The patient leaflet has a full list of side effects and instructions on what you need to do if you experience them. As a general rule, most side effects are temporary in nature and should pass within a few days. If you experience anything persistent that causes you any significant discomfort, you should immediately consult with your doctor or contact our patient support team.
Whilst we aim to provide the best possible healthcare, your safety is always our first priority which why we are currently not providing this treatment due to the development of a resistant strain. If you believe that you may have gonorrhoea, you should visit a Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) clinic or sexual health clinic that can test you and advice you on the correct course of treatment if required.
