One of the active ingredients in Proctofoam-HC is hydrocortisone acetate, which is a corticosteroid. This is a natural type of steroid that is able to reduce inflammation that occurs as a result of immune reactions. Haemorrhoids mainly occur as a result of pressure exerted on blood vessels in the rectum, this pressure can cause irritation, which in turn can stimulate an immune response. This immune response is what causes inflammation of blood vessels, which can cause them to become painful, visible and droop. Cortocosteroids stop this immune response from happening therefore reducing inflammation.
The effect of hydrocortisone acetate can take time, which is why this medication also contains Pramocaine, which is a topical anaesthetic. This type of medicine stops nerve impulses from taking pain signals to the brain, thus minimising any immediate discomfort experienced by a patient.
Most people can use it as long as they aren't allergic to any of the ingredients in the treatment. It should also not be used if you currently have a bacterial, viral or fungal infection that your doctor isn't aware of.
If you are considering ordering Proctofoam-HC online at 121doc, make sure that you provide all the information requested, particularly if you are pregnant, you have experienced rectal problems in the past or you are prone to depression.
It is an easy-to-use rectal foam which is applied with a specially shaped rectal applicator. One dose of Proctofoam-HC should be applied no more than four times a day after a bowel movement. Always ensure that the affected area has been thoroughly cleansed before using the treatment and that you don't continue using this medication for more than seven days without consulting a doctor.
Just like with all prescription treatments, Proctofoam-HC has a slight risk of side effects, although they won't affect everyone who uses this treatment. These side effects may include irritation of the area of application or a burning sensation at the sight of application. With extended use, skin might start to thin or a patient may develop dermatitis. Less common side effects may include mood swings, memory problems, delusions or confusion. If any of these occur or you are worried about any of the side affects you are experiencing, you should seek medical help.
