Like any prescription medication, Sildenafil may cause side effects in some people who use it. These are generally mild and short-lived, but being aware of them can help manage their impact and prevent any rare serious complications. The side effects discussed here are known to be associated with Sildenafil, but this does not mean that all people taking the drug will experience them.
The most common side effects of Sildenafil are headache and facial flushing, both of which are brief and easily treated. Other common side effects include indigestion, acid reflux, changes in vision (e.g. blurred vision or a blueish tint), dizziness and nasal congestion.
Uncommon side effects include fatigue, vomiting, vertigo, irregular or rapid heartbeat, muscle pain, dry mouth, eye pain and bloodshot eyes.
Rare but serious side effects include sudden loss of vision or hearing, fainting, and erections lasting four hours or longer. Allergic reactions to Sildenafil (rashes, hives, itching, swelling, tingling) are very rare but can occur. If you experience any of these side effects, seek immediate medical attention.
Certain pre-existing medical problems can affect the use of Sildenafil. There have been reports of men with existing heart conditions having heart attacks or strokes while taking Sildenafil. People with heart disease, high or low blood pressure and irregular heartbeat may find that sexual activity strains their heart. If you experience chest pain, severe dizziness or nausea during sex, stop and call your doctor immediately.
Sickle cell anaemia, bone cancer, leukaemia, penis abnormalities, retinal disorders, bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers and serious liver or kidney problems can also cause complications when taking Sildenafil. If you have any of these conditions, speak with your doctor before taking the medication.
It's important to remember that you are unlikely to suffer from any of these side effects while taking Sildenafil. If you do, they will probably be mild and resolve themselves in time. Most side effects will not require medical attention, and will stop during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine.
If you do experience any severe side effects or side effects not mentioned here, please contact your doctor or our customer service team.
