Williamsburg cigarettes sell out

Hipster smoking

Camel cigarettes have created a ‘Williamsburg’ edition of their product, in an attempt to profit from the fashionable reputation of the Brooklyn locality.

The area’s resident hipsters are sceptical about the marketing ploy, but packets of Williamsburg Camels have reportedly been selling out in the area. "Bodega workers on Bedford and Manhattan avenues said that they’re running out of the neighbourhood pack the same day that they’re dropped off," the Brooklyn Paper reports. This could be due to the fact that Williamsburg Camels are a dollar cheaper than the regular brand.

Andy Campbell who writes for The Brooklyn Paper slammed the brand for creating Williamsburg cigarettes. “As a Brooklynite, I’m repulsed that some marketing guy in Raleigh thinks that Williamsburg is ‘about last call, a sloppy kiss goodbye and a solo saunter to a rock show in an abandoned building. It’s where a tree grows.’ That’s just cringe-worthy,” he wrote.

Around 5 million people die from smoking-related diseases every year. Lung disease and heart disease are two of the primary causes. Researchers recently discovered evidence that smoking is the main reason why, around the world, men die earlier than women. There are more male smokers than female.

As well as causing fatalities, smoking also causes numerous non-lethal health conditions, including infertility and impotence for men. Quitting smoking can be tough, but millions have done it. Smoking cessation aids like the quit smoking medication Champix can help. Some people find psychological counselling and nicotine patches to be helpful too. Research carried out last year suggested that giving up smoking is more ‘mind than matter’. Experts believe willpower can go a long way towards helping you kick the habit.
