A new TV commercial for Viagra has been commended by an LA Times journalist for its artistic merit.

The advert shows a middle-aged man driving home in the evening. Upon reaching his home, a sparkling light can be seen in the upstairs window: presumably representing an eagerly awaiting partner.

The cool and earthy feel of the advert was praised by LA Times journalist Patrick Goldstein, who particularly admired the accompanying music by blues legend, Howlin' Wolf. Howlin Wolf's 1956 blues song Smokestack Lightning can be heard throughout the commercial.

Goldstein argues that Wolf himself (who passed away in 1976) would have been happy to feature in an advert for Viagra, also known as the little blue pill.

“I gotta think that if Wolf were alive today, he'd get a huge kick of hearing one of his songs being used to plug Viagra, once someone explained to him exactly what the product was for,” Goldstein writes. “I saw Wolf a couple of times when I was a teenager and even in the twilight of his career he oozed sex appeal.”

Goldstein says that if you listen to Wolf’s music, you get the feeling that he understood the essence of Viagra before it was even invented.

Billion dollar industry

Impotence treatment Viagra is immensely popular in America, raking in billions of dollars each year for its manufacturer, Pfizer. The demographic that the Wolf commercial targets – middle-aged men – is the main age-group affected by erectile dysfunction. An estimated 1 in 2 middle aged men suffer from erection problems of some kind. The introduction of impotence drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra has helped many men to overcome erectile dysfunction, and resume a satisfying sex life. Speak to your physician if you would like to find out more about Viagra and other impotence treatments.
