Levitra sold illegally on Craigslist

Police have discovered erectile dysfunction drugs, including Levitra, are being sold illegally on Craigslist.

The popular, free to use personal ads website seems to have become a breeding ground for illicit dealers who are seeking to sell the impotence drugs – which can only lawfully be prescribed by a doctor.

An investigation by news channel ABC, which was part of their Eyewitness News show, also found illegal street drugs such as crystal meth being advertised on Craigslist. A subsequent sting by police arrested several men in connection with adverts. Among them was a pharmaceutical company employee, who had stolen $64,000 worth of pills from his employer, before attempting to sell them on through Craigslist.

Purchasing prescription drugs through sites such as Craigslist is not only illegal; it could also lead to to the acquirement of dangerous, counterfeit medications. Fake versions of drugs like Viagra and Cialis can contain undeclared ingredients; or they may contain too much, or too little, of authentic ingredients. Particularly if a patient is already taking certain prescription drugs, they may have bad reactions to fake medications.

Craigslist has not responded to the news report. Authorities say that while Craigslist has a ‘blacklist’ of items which cannot be sold through the site (which includes prescription drugs), the problem is almost impossible to regulate, since posting ads on Craigslist is free, and there is very little monitoring carried out on the site.
