A firm in Boston has come under criticism, and faces a number of lawsuits, over its erectile dysfunction treatment services, the British newspaper The Daily Mail reports.
Boston Medical Group advertised themselves as a team of medical experts, who had equipment and advice for men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
However, when men attended a consultation at their offices, they were ‘aggressively’ marketed a treatment involving an injection to the penis. Expensive and risky, the treatment is a generally unnecessary alternative to approved erectile dysfunction pills such as Viagra and Cialis.
Injections for erectile dysfunction are sometimes offered as an alternative treatment, for men for whom Viagra, Cialis and Levitra do not work.
However, such treatments are significantly more risky than tablet formations of erectile dysfunction treatments.
One of the first erectile dysfunction treatments available which could be injected, called Caverject, was released by Pfizer. It has since become rarely available as Pfizer’s popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra has taken over.
This year will mark Viagra’s 13th birthday. Next year, the drug’s patent will expire. This could result in an influx of generic erectile dysfunction treatments being released onto the market. To prepare to compete with these generics, Pfizer has released a new, chewable formation of Viagra, called Viagra Jet, in Mexico. At present Pfizer has indicated that it has no plans to release this treatment in the UK.
